About this deal

The only thing with the Samsungs I'm aware of is there was a recent update to their flavour of Android (One UI I think?) which caused some issues. Have a look at r/androidauto on Reddit for any kind of issues like that. Usually it's on the handset side of things rather than the head unit/vehicle. Active 3-Way X'over Mode for advanced sound system building by separating the audio signal into different frequency band, via Low Pass Filter, Band Pass Filter & High Pass Filter, and direct them to the appropriate speakers or drivers via power amplifier(s). So, ultimately, yes you should buy a Kenwood DMX8020DABS. It's an easy way of getting modern infotainment into an old car and no, there aren't really any catches. It looks the part, is easy to operate and is well worth the investment. Note: If your "USB" connected devise does not function (e.g. iPhone4, etc. ), please re-connect your "USB" device using " iPod 1 USB port". Depending on the connected control unit, source name may be displayed "EXT-MEDIA", "*-MEDIA" or CD Changer ("CD-CH"etc.).

band Graphic Equalizer gives you the possebility to fine-tune advanced sound properties to achieve professional audio sound quality in your vehicle. It allows you to set parameters of Q factor, slope, frequency and gain at 14 points separately (Common: 9 / Front: 2 / Rear: 2 / Subwoofer: 1). With adjustments such as high and low shelving filters, more realistic sound can be delivered. We might upgrade our phone every couple of years to keep up with the latest technology, but most of us won’t renew our cars quite as often. This can leave us looking enviously at the newest models with their DAB radios, voice activation and perfect integration with smartphones. Connect the unit and iPod /iPhone with the attached iPod cable and Apple Lightning - 30 pin adapter. We'd go as far as saying Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are must-have features on a new car, but now numerous big-name aftermarket audio firms provide compatible devices of some description. We tested Sony's option a few years ago and, while Kenwood's isn't a like-for-like alternative (technology moves fast and that review's now three years old), it is more advanced. It also has an HDMI input (you could run a games console through the display if you wish), as well Bluetooth connectivity for both streaming music or making phone calls. It also has wireless screen mirroring for Android, which is great for watching videos (when parked up). Should I buy one?

Wireless AA does use a fair chunk of power especially if you're navigating, so don't bin that USB cable just yetApple CarPlay gives iPhone users an intuitive way to make calls, use Maps, listen to music and access messages with just a word or a touch. With iOS 12.0 and higher, 3rd party navigation apps like Google Maps™ are also supported. Wireless connection is available on compatible iPhones. Android Auto is a simple way to use your Android phone in the car. The KENWOOD receivers combine an intuitive voice controlled interface with a large touch screen and superior sound quality, allowing you to enjoy features including Google Maps and more. Wireless connection is available on compatible Android Phones. When the DNPS function of the center unit is operated, system will restrict title selection or other functions of the iPod for ten seconds. (Will resume in ten seconds.) High-Resolution Audio is high-quality sound that far exceeds CD standards and can play 192kHz / 24bit audio files. It captures and beautifully expresses details and nuances from the ultra-high to low frequencies. High-Resolution Audio Capturing all the details, from your favorite artists’ every breath, to the complex soundscape that surrounds them. Glad to hear the screen is better, as that's one of my gripes about the Pioneer unit I have. The UI in the Pioneer isn't fantastic either (better than OEM), so as long as the Kenwood is "as good" then I will be happy, especially if the screen is more responsive.

In the box, you'll find the stereo itself, as well as a wiring loom to connect to your car (you'll probably need an adapter as well). There's a microphone (for handsfree calls), a USB extension (for connecting your phone) and a GPS antenna for using Google Maps. This KENWOOD unit comes equipped with built-in Bluetooth technology to enable hands-free calling allowing you to make and receive calls. Music streaming to play music, podcasts, or any other audio content from your smartphone and all this without physically holding your phone. The unit support voice commands, allowing you to perform actions without touching your phone. You can initiate calls, play music or perform other tasks just by speaking voice commands and keeping your hands on the steering wheel where they belong and concentrate on the road ahead. Best of all, it will bring your car bang up to date with access to the very latest in smartphone connectivity. Which is the smartest choice to go with your phone? How we tested them I've just fitted a Kenwood DMX8020DABS and discovered you can modify the boot screen of the unit to give it a slightly more OEM appearance (sadly I don't think you can do much about the rest of the UI which is a bit less polished...). Here's the end result:

What's it like?

The key selling point of the Kenwood DMX8020DABS is its Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility. If you haven't used these before, they're brilliant – just connect your phone (via Bluetooth or old-fashioned USB) and you can access all your favourite apps on the move. Or some of them, at least (Spotify, Google Maps and Waze to name a few). data-src="https://cdn.media.amplience.net/i/washford/Halfords Car Audio fitting & installation service"
