If you already have a Philips Hue Bridge, the Philips Hue Play makes for a nifty way to add bias lighting to your home theater setup, or (even better) as a responsive bias light for your computer monitor.Misleading advertising and videos – they do not actually work with a TV, only with computer screens since there is no way to sync the colors with 99% of TV setups. October 8th, 2019 Reply After a little testing to ensure that each light is on the correct side in relation to each other, you’re ready to start playing with “scenes” (basically color and brightness presets) or “routines” (lighting arrangements based on the time of day, your arrivals and departures, timers, and other events) using the Hue app. If you have other Philips Hue smart bulbs in your home, you can add the Hue Play light bars to your existing scenes or routines. Setting the scene Set the brightness and speed of how your lights sync depending on the type of content you’re playing or watching (or your mood).1 But you need a modem and active internet to plug the bridge into and to set up your account. Nanoleaf Shapes look absolutely fantastic on your wall. You'll need to spend some time arranging them so that you can create your desired shape out of the hexagonal pieces. Once you do though, they'll look great either beyond or above your TV, mirroring what goes on during the movie or game and adding some much-needed atmosphere to your setup. Marvel movies are good examples of how color can add to the viewing experience. The best movie we found was Into The Spider-verse, which was a magical experience when synced to the Hue HDMI Box. In terms of the lights they are better than other Hue lights, such as light strips, they are diffused and give a good crisp color, however these are just lights like other hue products. The means to using them via your TV still isn’t here other than using Hue Sync via a computer like you say. November 17th, 2018 Reply

Amp up your movie nights with this HDMI-powered light show

Ciao a tutti. Volevo sapere se funzionano senza il collegamento ad internet. Volevo usarlo come ambilight per in mio tv non connesso. E POSSIBBILE? Dove si acquistano ? November 12th, 2018 Reply

The effect the Hue Play Box creates is stunning and makes certain movies and shows really fun to watch. It will engage you in a way that should delight most people. The setup was simple enough for anyone who already owns Hue lights and feels comfortable unplugging an HDMI cable or two. This box draws no attention to itself and is all about the presentation it creates. The beauty of Nanoleaf Shapes is that you don't have to buy a specific size for your TV – you can simply rearrange how they look to cover a smaller or larger area – meaning they'll adapt well to any future TV upgrades you may have in mind. If you change your mind about an Ambilight alternative, you can place them in a different room too and they'll still look great. If you're on a budget though, a Nanoleaf Essentials Lightstrip will also do the job, if not with as much style. The biggest downside to the Sync Box is some of its technical specs: It will output 4K, but is limited to 60Hz and HDR10. (Its HDMI spec is listed as 2.0b with HDCP 2.2.) Are they worth it? Yes and no, if you are into gaming then yes, they certainly add a new dimension. If you want to use them on the big screen for watching films on Netflix or with your TV, then not at the moment, until there is official support making it easier to work with these services it doesn’t seem worth it.Thanks for the review, the videos are great. Might be better without the light strip though as that doesn’t change color correctly sometimes. October 9th, 2018 Reply As I have already alluded to, I absolutely enjoyed seeing the area around my desk lighting up with bright and vivid colors throughout the day. At first, I paired the Play Bars with a HomeKit remote and had it set to simply change it to a single color. Eventually I came around to trying some of the scenes available through the Philips Hue app, and settled on using the Colorloop formula under the Hue Labs section. You can operate the Hue light bars just like a Hue bulb, they are completely adjustable just like other Hue lights, so you can set one to blue and the other to green. So if you don’t plan to use them with Hue sync or behind your TV you can use them just like other Hue lights and position them where you would like a nice light effect. How they work

I love Hue lights and these are great, they are designed really well, nicely built and the light effects are really good. The Hue Play can sync with the colors on your PC monitor with help from the Hue Sync app for Windows 10 and macOS. The advertising is very misleading, imho. From what I can tell so far is that these are no more useful than the other Hue lights I have. I was under the impression that I could actually sync these with my tct, but just like regular Hue products, this is only possible through Hue sync. You could do this with any of the lights. Basically, you can only sync through a computer and not with regular TV programming. They are big, so maybe seen, depends how you plan to use and fit them. The light is good and better than a light strip, just installing them in a way so they are hidden. January 3rd, 2019 Reply While there's no voice assistant support, at least the presence of a remote means you're not tied to your smartphone at all times, and you can always pass the remote over to your kids without worrying about them tampering with your expensive iPhone. While the Philips Hue Play light bars clearly have a variety of uses, let’s focus for now on how they function as bias lighting for a TV. For this particular setup, I set the light bars horizontally behind my set, which managed to throw a relatively large swath of light on the wall. For my set up, they are magnificent and the cable length is also (just) right … April 1st, 2020 Reply Once all plugged in you just load the Hue app and add them as you would with any other Hue bulb. Once added, add them to a room and then you can add them to an entertainment area. To use Hue sync you need an entertainment area set up, here you can position each of the Hue play bar lights as they are positioned behind your TV. Read our guide here to setting up Hue Entertainment areas via the app.
