About this deal

There's truly not a bad track here, and different ones emerge as favourites each time I play it - currently it's Midnight, for its risky but perfectly judged saxophone climax, and Holy Rider, for that boomy, epic soundscape that prefigures what the Killers created in Sam's Town.

Tracks such as "Lonely Night", "Need a Lot of Love", "Midnight (You Won't Be Sleeping)" and "Vigilante" laid the groundwork for the group to reach their commercial and creative peak on their follow-up UK Top 5 album, Wings of Heaven.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. While I have always liked the title track, I initially dismissed the rest of the album as too poppy and simplistic. I initially gave only one star to this album, but I have now upgraded my rating to a more fair two stars. This is a very good Magnum album - I don't like it as much as "Kingdom of Madness", "On a Storyteller's Night", "Wings of Heaven" or "Princess Alice and the Broken Arrow", but it is up there close to their best. I've read quite a few reviews who depend their rating whether the album (or artist) is prog and rate it down if not.

Three singles were released to promote the album, "Lonely Night", "Midnight (You Won't Be Sleeping)" and "When the World Comes Down". Vigilante was the first Magnum album I bought (still on vinyl back in 1991 as I didn't have a CD player then) and I still believe it is their best one. It has been one of my favourite Magnum albums since it was released and shows them at their brilliant best. Eventually got round to properly replacing my very battered 2nd hand CD of this album with a shiny new one.

peut-être un peu trop hard fm, mais néanmoins des titres comme Vigilante font de cet album un des meilleurs de Magnum mais pas un des plus typiques. The weakest tracks are the first three and the last, but the ones in the middle are all good ones; Midnight (You Won't Be Sleeping), Red On The Highway, Holy Rider, and When The World Comes Down are actually not bad at all! The gloss serves to the band's advantage too, in that it reins in the beardy, prog-rock tendencies of some of their earlier work and draws attention to the concentrated quality in the songwriting, and especially to Bob Catley's superbly paced singing. I decided to replace my old cd as some tracks had always seemed to jump so I was quite disappointed to find the new does the same so perhaps it is a mastering fault when the it was transferred from vinyl.

I don't give many five-star reviews, but Vigilante gets one because it's proof that there was good music being made even in the Thatcherite taste desert that was Britain in 1986. The approach adopted here was a lot more commercial and the end result is a more streamlined Magnum sound. those who ventures in this kind of music, for classical trained prog listner this one might be a desaster.

Auf diesem Album geht es etwas rockiger zu, aber 2 melodiöse Nummern setzen sich auf Anhieb im Ohr fest. While the band had wanted Rodney Matthews to paint the artwork, the record company chose a different cover against the band's wishes.

We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. From the breathy, synthy opening of Lonely Night to the ecstatic, drum-clattering coda of Back Street Kid, these are just nine top-notch songs given the best glossy, mid-80s production values by the skilled hand of Roger Taylor. Queen is one of my all-time favourite bands, and I'm sure that fans of 80's Queen will like this music. Only nine tracks but very much quality rather than quantity I found this album utterly absorbing from start to finish.
