He initially wanted to leave her as she wish but he just stood there instead. A moment later, he decided to put the umbrella near Mahiru and give it to her. It’s none of your business.” As Amane gives her a cold shoulder and continues his walk towards his apartment’s door. Once he opens his door and enter his residence, his legs suddenly gave up and finally being relieved from their duty to arduously walk his body home, ended up making him fall hard on his own front door.

The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, Vol. 5 (light novel)". Yen Press . Retrieved August 29, 2022.So Amane Fujimiya is this slob loser of a human being living alone, when he learns that he’s living next door to the “angel” of his school—the beautiful and intelligent Mahiru Shiina. On the basis, it’s just a generic light novel romcom plot with pretty art, and yet the pull that this story has had on me The light novel ranked tenth in Takarajimasha's annual light novel guide book Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! in the bunkobon category, and sixth overall among the other new series in 2020. The series has sold one hundred thousand copies by April 2020. [42] When it comes to plot, there's really isn't much going on and there's no need to. The main focus of this story is about the two main characters gradually getting closer and closer. As they get closer, the space between them lessen and they become more open to each other, it's that kind of story.

Due to her parents basically abandoning her, both physically and emotionally, Mahiru was raised by a housemaker, Koyuki-san. Like a lone flower at an unattainable place [1], she is very withdrawn. She hides her thoughts and feelings under a figurative mask, always seeming angelic, if distant. She is an excellent cook, impressing Amane Fujimiya, his friends, and his parents. She is also very organized, practical, and frugal. She cleans and organizes the household easily. She prefers practical gifts - for example, she asked for a whetstone for sharpening her knives when Amane asked her what she might want as a present [2]. She is also known to cut coupons and shop sales, preferring first to get high-quality things that will last, but then seeking the lowest possible price for such things. She does, however, dearly love the stuffed bear Amane gives her, and it is unclear how much of it is because she secretly wants to be more girly or simply because it was given to her by Amane. She is excellent at both sports and academics, often coming in the top of her class on tests, with perfect scores [3]. She is also an extremely hard worker, who wants her achievements to look like they did not require extreme effort [4]. During the course of the series, she opens up, and after she starts dating Amane, her personality becomes genuine and is much more attractive. She also becomes more outgoing and willing to let the rest of the world see more of who she really is, including warming up to Amane's parents and Amane's friends. GA Books acquired and published the web novel with illustrations by Hanekoto. So far, seven volumes have been published in Japanese (8th to be released Jan 2023). Amane lives alone in an apartment, and the most beautiful girl in school, Mahiru, lives just next door. They've almost never spoken–until the day he sees her in distress on a rainy day and lends her his umbrella. To return the favor, she offers him help around the house, and a relationship slowly begins to blossom as the distance between them closes... The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten ( お隣の天使様にいつの間にか駄目人間にされていた件, Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsu no Ma ni ka Dame Ningen ni Sareteita Ken, lit. The Case of the Neighbourhood Angel Turning Me Into a Degenerate Unaware) is a Japanese light novel series written by Saekisan and illustrated by Hanekoto. Originally published online on Shōsetsuka ni Narō, SB Creative has released eight volumes of the series under their GA Bunko label since June 2019. Yen Press holds the license to publish the series in North America in English. A manga adaptation with art by Wan Shibata and composition by Suzu Yūki has been serialized via Square Enix's online manga magazine Manga Up! since January 2022. As of December 2022, its chapters have been collected in two tankōbon volumes. An anime television series adaptation produced by Project No.9 aired from January to March 2023. A second season has been announced. But not here. Here we simply have a normal pair of neighbors. While aware of each other’s existence, still just that, neighbors. Otherwise complete strangers. At least until a small courteous exchange ended up triggering everything this story is going to tell you. Ever so slowly, and ever so peacefully. Taking a relationship from strangers to lovers not with the sledgehammer through the wall, but by simple day by day exchanges and developments. Meet Fujimiya Amane, our male protagonist. He’s a normal high-school student, standard look, gloomy, self-admitted hopeless slob, no girlfriend, yada yada yada. (Harmless spoiler: He is quite far from that cookie-cutter character description). He’s living a regular high-school student life with little to no friend. A seemingly gloomy and sad person at first, he is yes. The series is, at its core, the romance between a fairly unremarkable male protagonist and a heroine who seems to be an embodiment of all that is good in the world. I don't really have an issue with 'ideal girlfriend' fiction in and of itself, but Tenshi-sama suffers from a crippling problem in execution The author has endeavored to try to give Mahiru superhuman appeal in every single facet and does not hesitate to scream in the reader's face about her loveliness every other line. In what I would've considered parodic fashion if I didn't know better, every single action Mahiru takes is accompanied by a flurry of adjectives about how cute or beautiful or charming she is, like the author thinks we're amnesiacs who need reminding every five seconds that yes, Mahiru is a girl with attractive qualities. The absurd levels of grandstanding are so distracting it completely destroys the notion that Mahiru is anything but an artificial creation of the author's delusions. Rather than feeling like a real character, Mahiru feels like a shallow caricature of similar heroines in its genre. The deepest and most thorough description of Mahiru's history, who she is as a person, and how she fits into the relationship with Amane, comes from the LN Volume 5.5, Chapter 6 - "Childhood Anxieties, and Reassurance in the Present". Trigger warning, it goes through the darkest parts of her childhood trauma, which shaped her into the person she is today, and it gets very painful before she falls asleep on the couch crying over it, and awakes in the arms of the love of her life. It is a hard read, but intensely beautiful, and this very real and honest treatment of their troubled lives, while showing a truly satisfying and tenderly adorable happy turn of events for it, is absolutely one of the reasons I love the series. This is a phenomenally true to life portrayal of the kind of PTSD a person can end up with, when having been the victim of an abusive childhood, and as much as it is painful to see someone going through pain I have felt myself in my real life, it makes me all the more happy for her, that she HAS found someone who will love her completely and truly. And Amane's response to all of this is absolutely perfect. It is quite the highlight of an already great series. The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten 9] (in Japanese). SB Creative. 21 November 2023 .
