About this deal

mcdaniel has excellent control of the narrative, handling foreshadowing and discovery like a boss, and making you care about (almost) every member of this family, even at their least sympathetic. The opening sex scene between Betty and Zorg is filmed in one long shot: one angle slowly moving closer to their naked bodies, from the initial throes of passion to climax. It is so natural, so intense, and so beautiful. You can almost feel the heat in the air, their sex like a storm brewing. The scene is set to the sounds of a fairground carousel playing a tune tinged with insanity, creepy and foreboding, and unmistakably French. I remember the fierce love and devotion as much as I remember the violence." "our family tree grew with rotten, broken branches and fungus on the leaves." Un romanzo crudo, violento, che assume a tratti i connotati del thriller. Stupefacente il lirismo di alcuni passaggiFraming the rough-edged,troubled alienated youth (a major theme of the movement) of Betty and Zorg, Beineix closes in on the couple in long gliding panning shots, stopping on Betty and Zorg being naked, both physically and mentally.

We even see her typing the manuscript, transmuting it then and later in her actions so as to make it sweet.Much of the success of Richard Eyre’s production is based on the same factors. An animatronics pig may be the title lead of Betty Blue Eyes (given the rumoured expense of the pig, it was strangely unanimated, with stellar facial gestures but nothing that a good Jim Henson puppet couldn’t have achieved), but the real leads act Betty off the stage. I loved the first 40 minutes of the film. They were tight. Every scene was compelling and entertaining. The film started gradually losing me when the couple re-located for the first time. Throughout that second part of the movie, very few things happened to drive the plot. It was mostly detours and anecdotes, mainly ones intended to be funny. Nearly an hour worth of those. On the one hand, those made the movie more natural and prevented it from being a monotone melodrama. On the other hand, they completely deprived it of tension. The tone vacillated from serious to humorous way too often, at the expense of both the dramatic and the comedic scenes. When you read one of her books, now that I have two under my belt, I can say this with absolute certainty, the reader knows she has something special in her hands. Books don’t come written like this every day. Storytelling isn’t always this memorable. And you know all know I love books and authors, so at the heart of what I am saying is I absolutely adored this book. It’s THE book. My book of summer.

There is also no doubt that Alan Bennett’s screenplay for A Private Function, written with the movie’s director Malcolm Mowbray, is a major factor in the night’s success. Whilst the film was a little too depressing to be jolly good farce and too much like comedy to be a decent observation of post-war Britain, it was carried by Bennett’s beautifully observed characters – and the performances of Maggie Smith, Michael Palin, Denholm Elliot et al. Betty Blue was Beatrice Dalle’s first acting role, which is quite extraordinary when you watch her. She steals every scene, not just because of how she looks, but her facial expressions are just so alluring. Her eyes sparkle with excitement like a little girl; seconds later, they are full of sadness. We learn early on that Betty is wild but that men have badly wounded her. Some may say she’s contradictory—she wants male attention for sure—she wears just an apron when she arrives at Zorg’s place with her suitcase, but it is only Zorg’s attention she wants; she’s not interested in anyone else. Feeling sexy makes you sexy; it’s just a fact of life. And feeling sexy feels good. Yet, it is male attention that gets her into trouble from the beginning. She is fired from her job by her boss after he touches her and she spurns his advances. As a 14-year-old who had just been sexually assaulted by a friends father, Betty’s unwillingness to allow men to do whatever they wanted with her, purely because of the way she looked and chose to dress was very powerful to me. Betty Blue ( French: 37°2 le matin, lit.'37.2°C in the morning') is a 1986 French erotic psychological drama film directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix, based on the 1985 novel 37°2 le matin by Philippe Djian. [5] The film stars Béatrice Dalle and Jean-Hugues Anglade. [6] It was the eighth highest-grossing film of 1986 in France. Betty herself was also such an amazing character. Her resilience in the face all she witnessed at such a young age had me astounded. This small girl, had to bear the burden of others and still she was so pure and brave. From a technical perspective, this production still needs work: the lighting in particular seemed to be all over the place on press night. At one point, almost an entire verse was sung before it was clear who was singing it and from where on the dual-level stage, and there were several instances where cues had been missed for whatever reason. Ultimately, it didn’t affect the overall enjoyment of the show too much – one might even argue it provided an additional source of amusement. As well as providing a narrative that may be read and interpreted on several levels, _Betty Blue_ is an exceptionally beautiful film in terms of cinematography and mise en scene. Colour is used to breathtaking effect - the blue floors of the piano shop, the yellow car, the yellow lighting which makes it seem as though, regardless of time, it's always afternoon twilight. Landscapes, city scenes, interiors are all set up and filmed beautifully.

There isnt a memorable tune to be heard, some of the lyrics are witty but thats abut it, its all too small, amateur and badly produced. The only good well sung scene is “He has wonderful hands” Thae cast is so small in some scenes the male chorus dress as women to bulk out scenes and not to a comedic effect just to save money and thats the feeling all through the show. But money wont make the songs better not the performances, you cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Betty is a story inspired by Tiffany McDaniel's mother, Betty and her family secrets. It's a story of abuse, racism and poverty but a story of love through the strong connections Betty has with her father Landon and her siblings. It's also an Appalachian story with Cherokee stories and history. It's not an easy read at times and might not be for the lighter more gentle minded reader; however, it's one of those stories that shows us the dark to see the light in the world around us. It is hard to categorise this film; it is sexy, it is funny but it is also tragic. The love between Zorg and Betty seems very real making it all the more tragic as it becomes obvious that rather than just being a bit wild she is gradually losing her sanity. This leads to violent outbursts against those who upset her. Thankfully the depressing aspects of the story are balanced out by some very funny moments. The opening scene makes it clear this film will not be for those put off by nudity as we see the protagonists having sex; both characters are seen naked regularly throughout the film. For the most part this is fairly matter of fact. The characters are fun to watch; not just Zorg and Betty but also the people they befriend during the film. The cast does a fine job, particularly Jean-Hughes Anglade and Beatrice Dalle as our protagonists Zorg and Betty. The version of the film I watched was the three hour long director's cut; I didn't feel I was watching such a long film though as I was enjoying the story so much.

It's painful. This book hurt so bad. There were times when I just laid it down in my lap with my finger marking the spot where I left off and let myself just have a good cry. Goddamn if the author doesn't just make you fall helplessly in love with the characters. I knew it was dangerous, to let my heart get so emotionally attached, but that's the magic of being an avid reader, isn't it? There are very few films that are totally different from anything you have seen before. While sexually explicit -- it is far from objectionable because the two parties are in love and passionate about one another.
