About this deal

He has been teaching morphology for over twenty years, first at the Émile Cohl school in Lyons, then at the city of Paris's Ateliers des Beaux-Arts, the Gobelins school in Paris, Lisaa in Paris, and the Atelier in Angoulême. What sets this apart from other anatomy or figure drawing books is its amount of invented drawing poses. Over a year ago I purchased the highly recommended “Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist” by Peck and was severely disappointed.

Morphology" is a term preferred over "anatomy" by Dr Paul Richer, author of New Artistic Anatomy, because he believed the term was more about aesthetics and the form as a whole rather than medicine and its individual details. The author also offers instruction and tips for drawing hair that will help you in creating successful portraits. This book presents a simplified and practical vision of the fat and skin folds of the human body to help you in your drawing studies, encouraging both accuracy and a rich, diverse representation of the human form. An “illuminating” (Daily Mail, London) exploration of the second generation of the iconic Bloomsbury Group who inspired their elders to new heights of creativity and passion while also pushing the boundaries of sexual freedom and gender norms in 1920s England. But if you already have a good foundation on figure drawing and anatomy, the depictions in this book will give a fresh perspective and good alternative to tightly-rendered, hyper-detailed anatomy books. This is a useful book for learning figure drawing, and this is actually one of many books under the Morpho series. In more than 1000 illustrations, the human body is shown from a new perspective--from bone structure to musculature, from anatomical detail to the body in motion. This book is good for learning the internal structures and how they bend and fold but it's not an art instruction book. The consistent labelling with small footnotes on every page is way more informative and digestible than reams of dry text.

Geared toward artists of all levels, from beginners through professionals, this handy, pocket-sized book will help spark your imagination and creativity. The book shows multiple times how to take a shape of a person’s pose, make a skeletal figure, and then add the meat and muscles. There are many illustrated examples of anatomy from different angles and the body in different poses to show how the form of muscle change.
