If you know someone who’s a big-ass slasher film enthusiast, I have no doubt that they’ll be overjoyed to receive one of these sets for Christmas this year (or Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, or whatever: Jason’s an equal-opportunity slasher). before travelling back to a re-opened Camp Crystal Lake, where a fresh batch of teenagers await Jason's wrath. The most random extra though has to be a feature on Part VII that follows two female cast members as they get together for a makeover.

DTS-HD Master Audio mix is more immersive than before, and there's plenty of surround action on this one. AVC-encoded transfer that is occasionally a bit too dark, with crushing shadows and murky backgrounds. DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack is appropriately boisterous, with gunfire that erupts from the surround speakers and some nice LFE support during Jason's reappearance. Anyone who has seen Drew Barrymore get sliced and diced in Scream knows that Pamela Voorhees (Betsy Palmer) is the killer in part one.

The Friday the 13th films are, to put it mildly, simple entertainments, but re-watching all of them again revealed to me why these movies have enjoyed a shelf life far beyond what they, let’s face it, deserved. Indeed, when one thinks of “horror”, one generally thinks of characters like Freddy Krueger, Jason Vorhees, Leatherface, and Michael Meyers (the stabby one, not the Shrek one). Five years after the massacre at Camp Crystal Lake, the nerve-wracking legend of Jason Voorhees and his diabolical mother lives on. This is likely a result of the filmmaking technique, but it does rob the image of some of its detail.
