King, Marquez, and Sanchez have crafted something that feels avant-garde as it lures readers in and never slows. You have larger portions of the narrative focused in the same time frame, and the scenes spent in the past are placed in such a way that it all makes sense and tracks well. I have a feeling that once you know the ending, it’s easier to appreciate the story, because you’ll know why King’s making all these “weird” narrative choices. The Help gives Vera (Croc’s flame) the money for being Penguin’s patsy, telling her not to spend it. That Batman catching up to him is inevitable, and that even if he can hold the eye in his hand for a moment it's impossible to hold onto.A bank heist, a chase, lots of fighting - it’s well done, but it’s all stuff we’ve seen Batman do before numerous times. One thing that does signal King’s commitment to Batman as a hero is the way he focuses on the lives that the villains destroy – like his casualty lists in The War of Jokes and Riddles; King spends a sentence or two on many of those killed in the final battle, making them more than just fodder for exciting violence. I’m sure he’s got another 12-issue run in him about a well-meaning murderer to make us empathize with. Though perhaps a marketing commission from DC to support The Batman film, Tom King pours every ounce of his intellectual craft into Killing Time, creating a pitch-black thematic exploration of the evil men do to each other, illustrated with incredible skill and appeal by David Marquez.

If you were expecting a clever surprise or an unexpected twist on the narrator's identity, you get NOTHING! Me ha gustado este recurso, aunque también he de decir que se entenderá mejor todo leído de seguido y no a lo largo de meses, ya que hay detalles que me bailan y convendría tener más frescos. Needless to say, the MacGuffin never matters, though King spends several baffling pages in ancient Greece, somehow in relation to the MacGuffin. I’m always eager to see what the villains are up to, though, and this mini-series by Tom King focuses mainly on two of them, a pair we don’t see too often: The Riddler and Catwoman.
