About this deal

There is some violence and a few bloody details, but just enough to describe the situation (not too much). that's enough to make me keep this one on my TBR list, though now I'm wondering if I should start with one of Gatward's later books? But when a local teenager runs away, Harry finds himself pulled into an investigation much worse than anyone could have ever expected. I am hoping book number five is coming sometime soon, I really will need a Harry Grimm fix in the near future. By and by, Harry is entangled in a local homicide investigation during his north-bound sojourn in rural Yorkshire while trailing Sophie.

As the first book, it naturally introduces the recurring cast, all of whom turn out to be pretty credible cops, considering Harry's expectations, and you have to wonder if the BBC might want to give this a look. It’s beautiful country, where the people are genuine and honest, the air is fresh, and Harry – in spite of himself – is beginning to enjoy himself.

A hulking, facially scarred veteran paratrooper, Harry was prepared to experience (and exploit) the natural fear he inspires in most people. By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file. A classic fish-out-of-water crime mystery set in the stunning and evocative scenery of Wensleydale in North Yorkshire. Huw Stephens played their track 'Generation Z' on his Radio 1 show, and American Station KEXP followed suite.

Harry realises he has to not only rely on his detective skills but also his experiences and skills from when he was in the army. Even if the cellular reception is a bit patchy there ;) (And I live in the doorstep; I have visited both Hawes and Leyburn several times - they are both pleasant towns! The writing is superb and peppered with humour with a clever plot that made me listen in one sitting. This is a case that will prove how well Harry and his team are as one, the ability to trust will be tested in this book and we shall see how far they have come from the fledgling group in ‘Grimm Up North’. Harry is juggling the homicide investigation with his own long-estranged father—who, decades earlier, killed Harry’s mother and apparently injured his imprisoned sibling Ben—who has since reached out and gives him an unwanted danger warning. The main one DCI Harry Grimm is not bad, his team didn’t have enough to do to be reviewed yet, the secondary characters are unfortunately caricatures.

It's always an unexpected pleasure to discover a new mystery series, and if the first is any indication, I will be kept busy and entertained with the next 15. The best thing that can be said is that it was mildly diverting for a couple of hours and required no intellectual input from the reader, which was what I needed at the time. I've dropped one star simply because it needed more editing, there are wrong words in a few places but other than that an enjoyable read and I look forward to read the second Grimm up North! There are moments of brilliant writing, and the characters created are interesting, and the mystery was well-played.It's a Yorkshire thing as DCI Harry Grimm finds out when he is seconded to Hawes in Wensleydale (All Creatures Great and Small country) from Bristol. In Wensleydale, Harry meets his new team, the surprisingly competent and affable PCSO (Police Community Support Officer) Jim Metcalfe, PCSO Liz Coates, Detective Sergeant Matt Dinsdale, and Detective Constable Jenny Blades.

Moralistic undertones were also added to the tales and in some cases details and embellishments included that doubled the original length of a story.Detective Sean Blacken is investigating another serial killer whose gory murders are modeled on the six murders committed by psychologist-and-criminologist Alisa Cannolly. Ruth Blum, an anthropology student, arrives in this lost, pre-industrial hamlet and is invited into Yves's home while she studies the villagers, whose suspicions of her 'witchcraft' fester as the modern world begins to intrude in her wake. I do hope the author improves this, because seriously - Yorkshire exists in XXI century, so its inhabitants are all modern people. Also, there was a dip into horror with the very detailed description of the murder victim's injuries - totally unnecessary. Kelly's review of Grimm Up North echoes my thoughts about the book and I shall be checking out more of her reviews.
