I left her show feeling so inspired and when my copy of ‘Healing Through Words’ came in the mail, it was perfect timing. It covers a wide range of themes that are relevant and relatable to many people, such as trauma, loss, heartache, love, healing, and celebration of the self.

The book is peppered with examples of her past work, and perhaps my one complaint about this book is that I had hoped to read some new work. It may not appeal to readers who are looking for more structured and formal guidance on poetry writing techniques and forms. Next, this book takes her poetry, her experiences, opinions and passion and gives you a chance to start documenting your own experiences and feelings. This fill-in-the-blank journal is excellent for those trying to heal from trauma; I could see therapists recommending this to clients. I started in the ‘Breaking’ section and it’s been helping me get through this tough time… but I’m glad I have Rupi to help me <3. Rupi asks us to confront the darkness in our pasts with bravery while at the same time making us feel like it’s okay and safe to do so.
