The Burgundy is our largest wood effect barrel and holds an impressive 500 Litres, that’s double the amount of water in our other wood effect barrels.
They will come with a fitted lift-off lid, created from the original barrel lid and a brass tap for draining the barrel. The child proof lid minimilises the amount of bugs entering the tank and helps to keep water quality high. These Sherry Butts have had multiple fills of Sherry over a period of up to 20 years, heavily seasoning the wooden staves. Dimensions approx: Height 130cm – Widest part 95cm – Due to the ageing process of whisky involving the charing of the inside of the barrels, charcoal may be present on the inside of some of our products.Tannins give the wine its colour and give it its delicate pinkish hues in proportion to the load of garnet. The barrels are sanded then varnished and are all individual in appearance with a different number of bands intact. Used wooden barrels: Notches in the wood or, in certain circumstances, an uneven base, do not constitute a quality defect, but stem from the idiosyncrasies of the production method and the prior use of the barrels.

These attractive additions serve to lift the barrel off the ground allowing air to circulate under the barrel. The barrels contribute exceptionally complex flavors and aromatics in use with white and red varietals from Rhone Valley, Italian, Spanish regions and also special cuvées with Bordeaux varietals.They will unload the pallet from the vehicle for you and, where access is possible, move the pallet to a convenient place for you to unload the tank from the pallet. This has resulted in an even more limited fraction being filled into our 2020 Oloroso and Pedro Ximinez Sherry Butts. Inside of the whiskey barrels and large wine barrels will be charred, which creates the smokey flavour of the whisky.

The barrel is intended for distillates, with a strong toasting it brings strong structures of bacon and ham for the maturation of whisky or grain brandies. Good news is that there is still a handful of these Butts available and filled with either peated or unpeated new make spirit. Please note, these will be as wide and heavy as possible to provide as stable a platform as possible, but may still rock, especially on uneven surfaces. Over or under-care can do more harm than good as the size and volume of water vs the solution needs to comply with the guidelines of the product in use.
