About this deal

For me, it's more a matter of not trusting my birds' safety to a man-made 50 buck piece of equipment that could fail. It was really odd because I had the small and then I had a medium and the small was always noticably warmer than the medium.

Overall the thermo perch does what it's designed to do and I would recommend it to any fellow bird owners. Living in a climate with unpredictable drafts and air conditioning can take a toll on our exotic birds. Parrots feet are usually on the cold side so I would assume that standing on something heated is not in their best interest (you can't believe everything the manufacturer tells you about any product and the bird industry has A LOT of things that are not safe for birds). It's my understanding that the chickens do not need the heat and the most important thing of all is to make sure there is adequate ventilation.

The Thermo perch maintains an optimal temperature of 102 to 107° which radiates to help warm the entire bird. The last two nights have been very cold, with wind chills under -17 below, and the girls are doing just fine. The marks are on both feet, and do not seem to have bled, so I doubt they are cuts or from any sort of spontaneous injury.

As we have learned, birds should never be exposed to cold and drafty conditions as this leads to illness in the animal. MET requires that all manufacturers put the extension cord statement “Do not use with extension cord” on every item that is MET listed by UL 499 standards. Read more about the condition New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging is applicable). Either way, I have never noticed them before, and I'm worried that perhaps his heated perch is burning him. Is it worth taking him to the vet still, or should I just try switching out the perches and see if he's okay?

Is it ok to apply a single layer of medical sticking plaster such as elastoplast to the heated perch for added grip?

Parker now has the luxury of choosing the perfect temperature for himself, thanks to the varying temperatures from end to end. Perching birds can easily stay right in their place when they nap on a wire or a tree, or their cage perch. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.Panel heaters do not come into direct contact with the actual bird, so whether they are or are not, there's not much risk of a burn. But, I put it above a nice corner perch that they could hang out on for a while if they wanted, and I make sure to put fun toys nearby to lure them over.

Sometimes dowels can be treated with chemicals or finish, so that is not something you want your pet chewing on. Exotic pets are much happier in warm climates, so they can easily replicate that feeling when you supply them with a heated perch.

Temporary use of a UL listed cord is fine, but consult your electrician for the proper cord for your application. For example, if a reptile heater's rheostat fails to regulate, it tends to just go to the hottest setting, which is terrible, seeing as reptiles have to instinct to get away from warmth of any strength. on a side note, I have a medium plastic one (works great), if anyone is need of one, you can have it. This is a low-voltage (12-volts) heating unit using an UL listed adapter and cannot shock your bird, use only 5 watts and attaches easily to wire cages. This can certainly be troubling, as your exotic bird is not like birds that are native to cold climates, such as cardinals.
