About this deal

Heil’s answer to the SM57, the PR-20, had gotten some positive attention from the online recording community, and I wondered if the larger mics in the line might sound good too. Some users brought up that they have been using Heil PR 40 for their instruments such as, kick drum, bass cab, piano, and electric guitar speaker cabinets. When properly applied, this knowledge creates outstanding cardioid patterns with unbelievable rear rejection that removes unwanted sounds that try to enter from the off-axis rear. Singing only two inches away from each mic meant that the proximity effect was the main reason why the PR 40 was fatter.

I see this microphone as being overkill for flipping your classroom and for general recording purposes. At the same time, it maintains the 25-year Heil Sound tradition of superbly natural voice articulation. Kein Gerät hat so überzeugt, wie das PR40 von Heil Sound (der Name muss wohl einfach ertragen werden) und verdient daher auch meine erste Bewertung hier auf thomann. At another studio, I used a PreSonus M80 mic preamp and around 20 dB of gain to obtain a good level into Pro Tools|HD at 24-bit/96 kHz. While appearing on a couple of radio shows at two different studios, I found myself amazed by the sound of my voice through two well-known broadcast mics: the Shure SM7 and Sennheiser MD 421. It is important to note that this mic does a great job of rejecting room noise, but Acoustic Sound Treatment never hurts! If you have a condenser and don’t correctly sound treat, then you’re going to have extra sound effects in your podcast along with a whole bunch of room reflections. Hook it into a mic preamp and processor (like the DBX 286s) and you have yourself the ultimate podcasting sound.

B. der RODE Procaster, der gain-Regler muss nicht voll aufgedreht werden, ergo weniger Rauschen, besserer Sound und perfekt ausgewogene Pegel. Repositioning the PR 40 so that it was aimed away from the beater, it produced less attack and more roundness. I'm running it through a Focusrite Scarlett Solo and it needs the gain up near max if you don't want to be kissing the thing while you talk. Wer sich fragt, ob man so etwas überhaupt für Studio/indoor-Aufnahmen braucht: der WSPR40 ist eben nicht nur ein Windscreen sondern zugleich ein hervorragender Pop-Schutz.It just isn't as good as the Shure XLR mic is, but at least you can use this without a signal booster.

Assuming you're using the Main Out jack on the mixer, how are you setting the channel 'Gain' and 'Level' control and the 'Main Mix' control?

In addition to dual mesh screens, each made with different diameter screen apertures, there is an internal breath blast filter on the diaphragm element itself, providing superb response for the human voice across the entire vocal range, without “popping” noises. Heil Sound has since backed off on the claim of “45dB rear rejection;” product literature does not quantify the rejection, either in level or direction. Once we decided to continue our podcast past the requirements of our coursework, we purchased a pair of Heil PR40 microphones. Any noise you hear is likely to be from your preamp, as the mic does require a fair amount of gain; 40 dB or so did the trick for me.

I will bump up the score of this microphone because of the nifty carrying case that it is packaged in. Dynamic microphones, like the PR40, will focus on sound coming in from one place (you talk into the top end of the Heil PR40) whereas with condenser mics they’re picking up sounds all around the mic. I almost would believe with proper setting of gain through the mixer and H6 you might be able use the mixer without the Cloudlifter depending on the preamps in the mixer. Heil later changed its product description, as well as the published polar-pattern graph, to Cardioid. The PR-40 is a high-performance dynamic microphone and is ideal for podcast talk show hosts and voice-over work. Bob Heil's approach to cardioid dynamic mics always seems to produce a tight polar pattern, with almost perfect rear‑rejection — a feat Bob attributes to "using the ideal combination of materials for the 1. In addition to dual mesh screens, each made with different diameter screen apertures, there is an internal breath blast filter on the diaphragm element itself, providing superb response for the human voice across the entire vocal range, without “ popping” noises. The rear rejection means two mics in close proximity will not cause unwanted sounds and reflections.
