Often without as the jacket has full hood but the easy on / off process can be handier than the zipped hood if removal of net is regular. The arguments for eradicating (or severely controlling) the Scottish biting midge are many and varied.

Midges are present in almost every environment on earth, except in freezing arctic conditions and hot deserts. The early autumn and early spring (October, November, December, January, February and March) are normally midge-free months in Scotland because it’s too cold for them.
