About this deal

The day of Grace's wedding, Ellie makes a split-second decision to save her older sister from marrying the dark and broody crown prince, Fitz and hides herself under the magical veil, marrying him instead. The epilogue is devoted to wrapping up other character beats, but we don't really get to see Fitz and Elle starting their life together from a better place. The pacing in this book is great with a good balance between action and character-driven scenes as well, which is hard to pull off, honestly.

I honestly have realized that I am someone who loves the tension of slow burn but hates the wait, again I am impatient, but the wait is so worth it. It is one of those stories where I put it down, and couldn’t stop thinking about it so I had to pick it up again. Currently she lives in Ohio with her husband and fur babies, and surrounds herself with books and coffee on a regular basis. I don't think there's going to be a direct sequel either, but hopefully we get to see more of Elle and Fitz in Schade's future books. The characters, the mystery, the slow burn tension, and world building are immersive and spell bounding. And the key to her salvation might be her arrogant, cold husband—the one she’d planned to rob and abandon. Please try again later as the restrictions may be lifted, or contact your service provider if the issue persists. If Schade is going to go to the trouble of including them into her book, at least give them a task to fulfill.

It had all the characters from Pride and Prejudice that we know and love, and some of the situations that we don't so much (anything pertaining to Mr. As any good character inspired by Darcy should be, Fitz is equal parts broody and devotedly fierce to the ones he loves.

I also really enjoyed seeing how Elle grapples with being accepted by the land to wield the power Fitz has bestowed on her. While her mother and sisters reconciled themselves to a future among dangerous immortals, Elle and her father studied forbidden magic, hoping to find a loophole. Ok, here’s the deal…I generally liked the book, so maybe more than 3 stars, and I know it’s YA, so I also understand the general angstiness of the female protagonist, but OMG! Oh, and you can’t forget a magic world connected to nature and the seasons which I am always such a sucker for. Ok…rant over…oh wait…just a final general rant, can we just stop naming all fantasy novels like they are a 5 paragraph essay?
