The movie tried to explain and smooth some things and I have to say that some of the things it did, I was thinking too, but it was also. I had a feeling, by the end, that this could well have been a much longer, more detailed book though. It was a spooky (but not so spooky) story though that would just be a book kids could read for pleasure, especially the imaginative and descriptiveness of the story was appealing. But the story and characters go nowhere (other than Earwig being smart and resourceful and magic) and there is little depth to the characters. Aya accepts, but soon realizes that she is only the witch's slave and that her magic lessons are not coming.
