The movie tried to explain and smooth some things and I have to say that some of the things it did, I was thinking too, but it was also. Optisches bewerte ich ja eigentlich weniger, doch das Buch war voll mit wunderschönen Illustrationen, die das Leseerlebnis noch mal ungemein aufgewertet haben! Mandrake can get anything just by asking the demons, what is the point of having Earwig around, making her fry bread when he could just ask for much better versions. In the end, it doesn't really clear much, even though character wise the ending was definitely better for Bella Yaga than in the book and from this angle I definitely liked it better, but some of the changes just.Jones brings her characteristic witty humor and rich imagination to a whimsical chapter book that would undoubtedly delight as a readaloud. I had a feeling, by the end, that this could well have been a much longer, more detailed book though. It was a spooky (but not so spooky) story though that would just be a book kids could read for pleasure, especially the imaginative and descriptiveness of the story was appealing. But the story and characters go nowhere (other than Earwig being smart and resourceful and magic) and there is little depth to the characters. Aya accepts, but soon realizes that she is only the witch's slave and that her magic lessons are not coming. The Mandrake is a superb character, a man whose eyes accommodate glowing red fires and who is served by a collection of demons who he sends out for takeaway.Earwig and the Witch' Review: Studio Ghibli's First Computer-Generated Feature Is an Unholy Eyesore". Guardian A magical story for young readers from the author of Howl's Moving Castle and Charmed Life, Diana Wynne Jones. Decided to read this after watching the movie, because I was wondering both if there were more details here than in the movie and how loyal the movie was to the book.
