About this deal

A successful piano player for both the Cuff Links and the Buoys, with whom he had his first international hit, "Timothy," in 1971, Rupert also wrote and arranged songs for Gene Pitney, The Platters, The Drifters and the Partridge Family. Though the book feels overlong, sapping some of its drive, and Holmes never fully commits to his conceit, his farcical plotting, idiosyncratic characters, and witty, stylish prose combine for a fun, frothy read. To gain admission, a student must have an ethical reason for erasing someone who deeply deserves a fate no worse (nor better) than death. One final point: another reviewer thought one of the plotlines may be homophobic and asked for comments from someone from the LGBT community. Wonderful idea, lacked execution, and the last section feels like it was a cut chapter the author insisted on including, rather than a proper ending.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. I came to really care for the characters and was rooting for their success in their deletions as their employers were truly awful people. It's also a story I didn't want to end, so apparently I'm a touch on the fickle-side about this listen. To be a student at this institution, you will have to undergo a rigorous selection process and your motive must be clear and justified. We also follow two of his other classmates, Gemma and Doria, as they learn the skills to both murder their own employers and to avoid getting murdered themselves. The emotions and struggles of Cliff, Jemma and Dulcie were so intriguing and like riding a rollercoaster. COLD SPRING - The daffodils have made a showy arrival on his hillside overlooking the Hudson, but Rupert Holmes really wants to talk about people pushing up daisies. Sitting in his sunroom with a sweeping Hudson view, Holmes laughed easily about the McMasters world he has created, with impeccably rendered illustrations and a map by Broadway set designer Anna Louizos. It follows 1 main character and 2 other potential murderers as they take their courses and learn how to correct past mistakes.

One of the three students and the lead protagonist in this story is Cliff Iverson, an aeronautics engineer. A delightful mix of witty wordplay, breathtaking twists and genuine intrigue, Murder Your Employer will gain you admission into a wholly original world, cocooned within the most entertaining audiobook about well-intentioned would-be murderers you’ll ever hear. It's not just for the purpose of a joke, it's for the purpose of making this ridiculous idea seem credible. Holmes has been on a book tour — taking him from Harvard to Hoboken from Phoenix to the Bay Area, some in person, some via Zoom — reading from his book but also listening to audiences. There are many things to consider and even IF you manage to pull it off, how will you get away (after all, you don't want to let the asshole employer have the last laugh, do you)? A case study in the droll amusements of homicide, Rupert Holmes's send-up of higher education and even higher crimes and misdemeanors will keep you up at night-alternately turning pages and checking to make sure the front door is locked. Sure, one or two were expected, but to see how we got there was even more delightful than the actual event itself.

Today Mandie is taking time to review the book that every boss hope’s you’ll never read 😉 Just kidding.Never fear, that's what McMasters Conservatory for the Criminally Insane aka McMasters Conservatory for the Applied Arts is for. Cliff’s journey is not the only one either; we also follow Dulcie Mown who’s really Doria Maye (famous actress who wants to delete the director who has started to destroy her career) and Gemma Lindley (she’s being blackmailed by her terrible boss who takes credit for all Gemma’s work). It read like there was no editor and the author watched Knives out a few times and had a bunch of ideas and didn't know how to pick one so threw them together without any concept of how to make them into a cohesive narrative. His first novel, Where the Truth Lies, was nominated for a Nero Wolfe award for Best American Mystery Novel, was a Booklist Top Ten Debut Novel, and became a motion picture starring Colin Firth and Kevin Bacon. The author has done a great job of weaving an intriguing narrative around such a creative and unique premise.
