About this deal

As part of the 2022 Runner’s World Sports Nutrition Awards, we enlisted a 200-strong panel of testers – made up of ordinary runners and experts – to slurp and munch their way through a variety of market-leading energy gels, drinks and chews to find the best on the market. There are 12 flavors to choose from, the majority of which are free from caffeine, but four contain 89mg of caffeine, delivered via the plant guarana. The caramel latte supplements the guarana with real coffee.

McGregor recommends consuming 30-60g of carbs per hour for the first three hours of running, increasing to 60-90g of carbs per hour if you’re still going after that. This can be in the form of gels, drinks or solids.Use REGO Rapid Recovery Powder within 30-minutes after exercise to achieve maximum recovery benefits. Simply add 50g of powder (approximately three full scoops) to 500ml of water in a shaker bottle and shake well to achieve a smooth consistency. Avoid mixing with milk as it will slow down the rate of absorption. Hammer makes its gels with maltodextrin, but supplements this with a mix of grape juice and rice dextrin, which provides much of the fruit flavor. There's also a selection of branched chain amino acids, designed to reduce fatigue, and L-alanine, which is an amino acid that Hammer says helps meet energy demands when you start running low on carbs. As a product, the High5 gel should appeal to those who want their gels to contain natural flavorings while at the same time avoiding colorings and artificial sweeteners. They're also suitable for both vegetarians and vegans. These are peach, raspberry and rosehip (Vivo sachet), wild strawberry and basil (Attivo), and golden apricot and sage (Solo). Pretty exciting stuff we’re sure you’ll agree, and each serving contains a healthy hit of sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium. The Vivo sachet also contains 22g of fast-release carbs if you want to combine energy and electrolytes, while the Attivo flavour contains 75mg of caffeine.

Depending on your sport or event, you should aim to consume 2-3 gels every hour during exertion to reach an 80g-120g target intake Still aim to hit 60g of carbohydrate per hour, using electrolyte gels around other SiS GO products e.g SiS GO isotonic Energy Gel
