About this deal

Despite this, El Ventilador is one of the best advanced Spanish textbooks that I’ve used to teach this level. It will definitely provide you with different words and expressions that will boost your Spanish skills. On the downside, the design is very simple and sometimes it can be overwhelming because it’s a lot of text with no exercises for you to do. Additionally, you may miss some grammar structures that other beginners have learned.

The book is written very clearly from a U.S. English grammar perspective. It is accessible and will easily reinforce grammar rules as well as help students make connections between U.S. English and Spanish grammar. By now, you should already be able to hold most conversations comfortably, even when chatting to native speakers. One of the challenges when progressing to advanced Spanish is noticing that you often won’t make as many great strides forward as you used to do at the beginner or intermediate level. Some things will either feel repetitive or way too difficult to grasp. These same elements are hard to come by in other Spanish textbooks. El Ventilador is divided into 33 lessons and different sections that have the purpose to develop each one of your Spanish skills. Also widely used for language lessons in tertiary education, this handy textbook focuses on improving conversation skills for intermediate learners. It helps learners form sentences in the correct structure and move beyond just using root words and elementary phrases to express themselves. But as with many textbooks, Aula Internacional is meant to be taught or guided by a teacher. In fact, all the text is in Spanish. So if you want to use it as a self-taught and don’t know a little bit of Spanish (which you may not because you’re a beginner), it may be hard for you to begin. You can read and study for hours, but eventually you will need to get a pencil and a paper and start writing down conjugations yourself.

It is written in a clear language, very accessible for the beginners. The learning objectives are clearly stated, the division of sections is consistent. The clarity of the text makes it easier to use for both instructors and students. The organization of the book is consistent. The vocabulary and chapters are structured clearly and all the sections have a review and a project. The book primarily teaches vocabulary and grammar for a beginner level Spanish course. All of the information provided is necessary to begin learning Spanish, and therefore, the text will not be obsolete within a short period of time. Some of the cultural information and the assignments that use examples of key people may become obsolete over time, but those will be easy to update and won't affect the overall goal of the text. This book not only teaches Spanish, but has 41 selections of short stories to boot. The source text is written by well-known Spanish and Latin American writers and captures the richness of their respective cultures. There are many different workbooks out there to help you gain confidence in your Spanish writing skills. 4. “First Spanish Reader: A Beginner’s Dual-Language Book” This doesn’t mean that you cannot use it for self-studying, but you will need to put some extra effort into researching further grammar information since some explanations may not be enough.

The exercises included in this advanced Spanish textbook require the learner to analyze the context and decide how to apply the vocabulary or grammatical structures presented. Since that’s what you’ll do in real-life situations, I think these exercises are great.

Textbooks

The book Spanish I is a very complete textbook. It covers the topics, vocabulary, communicative situations, grammar structures and cultural information that a student at the elementary level needs to communicate in Spanish in everyday life. I feel that the book covers what we usually study in the first two semesters of our Spanish sequence. The general Hispanic cultural segments are good, but the representation of diverse people and cultures could be improved. I have not detected navigation problems or any distortions. The content and presentation are comprehensible and transparent. From a conversational point of view, this book is amazing because it will actually give you the tools to have simple conversations on situations that you’ll face as a tourist. Of course, you can actually get the book ( see current price) as a way to improve your conversational skills. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to practice your grammar with other resources. FAQ’s This Spanish textbook works best as a companion book for grammar drills. It contains thorough lessons on the more advanced grammar rules in Spanish, with plenty of attention given to complex conjugations. It also has a list of sophisticated vocabulary to supplement your word bank.
