About this deal

Not only is the Halo Mini a valiant warrior against pests, its compact, sleek design means it will look great on your patio table while being small enough to not be intrusive. Powered by butane gas canisters, the Halo Mini is super-portable, protecting you wherever you go this summer, whether it’s a picnic in the park, festival or camping trip. Place your Thermacell device onto a flat surface, remove the protective cover from the top of the device and insert the repellent mat under the grill If there’s no orange glow, rotate the base to the ‘START’ position again until you see an orange glow through the view hole This handy, portable defence against the insects device creates a 20m Sq. protection zone to ward off unwanted intruders during your garden tea party with the kids or picnic at the park. With 12 hours’ worth of protection included (with Refills Available, and a weather-resistant cover, you won't want to be without this mozzie detterent on your next camping trip! On several other camping evenings, where midges were also present in low numbers, the Thermacell did seem to make some sort of difference too; but again it's very hard to say how much. Not once have I been bitten by a mosquito while using the Thermacell - I have however received hundreds of midge bites in the line of duty. It's clearly not a silver bullet.

The Thermacell is less effective in certain conditions, such as wind. It’s also difficult to know when you’ve left the protective ‘bubble’, as of course, that’s invisible. To be safe, I found myself positioning the device on the ground right by where I was sitting. But I’m not sure how this would play out if you had, say, a garden party with dozens of guests. But as someone who normally gets bitten in abundance, I was delighted to note that I didn’t receive a single mosquito bite – nor did I feel any buzzing around my bare legs and arms – once the machine was ‘warmed up'. Only for outdoor use as an insect repellent. Do not use indoors, in tents or in any enclosed area. Do not insert anything other than Thermacell mats into the appliance. Cover or remove all exposed food. Do not leave appliance unattended or use in windy conditions. Do not expose appliance or mats to rain. Do not attach appliance to your body or clothing. Place appliance on a flat, stable surface with the grill facing upward...Typically I struggle with insect bites; whether I’m on a London terrace, sitting on a beach or — heaven forbid — camping in a buggy forest, as soon as dusk hits, I get eaten alive. I found it super easy to use and (drumroll…) I didn’t get bitten the entire time, even with bare legs and arms. Is this success all thanks to the Thermacell? It’s hard to say for certain – it’s possible there just were fewer mosquitoes about than usual – but the results were promising. The idea of sitting in a chemical cloud doesn't really appeal, but weigh this against the possibility that you might not also have to wear insect repellent - itself often quite nasty stuff. I've only used this unit for a few months, but I know a man who's had one for seven years, so I thought he'd be worth asking:

Summer is here – hurrah! – unfortunately, it brings with it a whole host of irksome insects waiting to invade your picnics and barbecues. With Thermacell’s Halo Mini Mosquito & Midge Repeller and Refill Bundle, you can enjoy your alfresco dining experiences in peace, as its innovative technology creates a 20m Sq. protection zone to ward off unwanted intruders. Great for the garden, park and even the beach, this mini marvel comes with 24 hours’ protection included (with refills available to buy separately). Powered by butane gas canisters, a mat saturated with insect-repelling allethrin is heated, spreading the repellent through the air, creating a 20m Sq. ‘force field’ that deters meddlesome midges and mozzies. The device works best in calm conditions, as strong winds will affect the efficiency of the repellent. When it comes to insect repellents, customers usually rate products as a pass or fail. It either works or it doesn’t. Fortunately, I uncovered a positive consensus with Thermacell products. Reportedly useful in preventing bug bites, multiple buyers stated that it was a must-have for outdoor events. Unlike a powerful body spray, it doesn’t work instantly. Depending on the area and the conditions you’re working in, it takes the Thermacell between 10 and 30 minutes to create its ‘bubble’ and effectively repel mosquitoes and midges. It seems to shoo away most insects - including non-target species. I have observed foraging beetles for example changing direction abruptly and high-tailing it out of the exclusion zone at a rate of knots." Apparently the compounds have low toxicity for humans and birds, but you certainly don't want to get too close. And keep cats away, as allethrins are toxic to them. The price you pay for these (very reasonably priced) is well worth being able to enjoy the outdoors without being eaten by mosquitoes,” one reviewer detailed for the Mosquito Repellent Shield Lantern. “I now own multiple different models of Thermacell and never venture outdoors without one.” Three insect-repelling mats (each lasts for four hours), and one butane canister (which lasts 12 hours).
