About this deal

If you're after a budget-friendly vacuum that can handle wet messes, your best option is a compact shop vac like this one from Craftsman. Our in-home testing confirmed that it can easily handle regular household messes like dust, pebbles, hair, sand, food debris, and even water spills. As this is a large vacuum cleaner, it has a huge 3-litre bin. That’s absolutely massive to the extent that we only had to empty it every couple of weeks or so.

The Tineco glides on pretty much every hard surface, almost as if it’s pulling itself, fearing no mess as it goes. The iLoop Smart Sensor inside actually detects wet or dry messes automatically, and adjusts accordingly, dishing out the best method of cleaning up, monitoring the mess until it’s done. Overall, Not nearly as good as the Karcher but at half the price it’s great for smaller home projects. What is a Wet Dry Vacuum? For most households, the medium size one will fit most needs. These are easier to store so you will be more likely to use it often. Large ones that are kept in a basement will likely only be used in an emergency. It’s light enough to carry around with the dedicated handle on top, but there are no castors to help it roll. The included HEPA filter looks like it’s sturdy and made to last a long time. Just make sure to take it out before wet vacuuming jobs.

Maneuverability: To assess maneuverability, we made more specific messes—only this time, we spread them near the edge of and underneath furniture, so each machine had to be moved and adjusted accordingly. A wet-dry vacuum is very similar to cylinder vacuums that you pull around, rather than upright vacuums. This is the first robot vacuum cleaner that we’ve heard of to use a piezo sensor to detect dust levels, automatically adjusting suction power based on the amount of dust detected. That’s the same technology as used in the Dyson V15 Detect cordless vacuum cleaner. With the 360 Vis Nav, Dyson is promising that the new robot vacuum cleaner has six times the suction of other robots, using a Hyperdium motor that spins at up to 110,000rpm. Raw power is one thing, but robot vacuum cleaners also need to be smart.

Air that flows through the filter and out of the vacuum is usually cleaner than many domestic vacuums permit since the dirt and dust get absorbed by the water. After a thorough cleaning of a workshop, the air may actually be cleaner than in your home! Replace filters as needed. Again, refer to your owners manual about the frequency necessary to replace them. Because they have such heavy-duty capabilities, they are often overlooked when buying a vacuum for home use. But, after reading this article, I believe you will find that there are many good reasons to keep a wet-dry vacuum for home in your cleaning arsenal. How Does a Wet Dry Vacuum Work?

1. Ultenic AC1 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

The HL5 Pet is incredibly powerful for an upright vacuum, hitting 332AW in our tests. For comparison’s sake, the Shark NZ860UKT has 268AW of power, though the Shark vacuum does do a faster job in many instances. The HL5 Pet also performed well in our real-world tests, especially when faced with pet and human hair. Hard floor cleaners are a brilliant way to keep hard floors looking their best, and now Dyson has joined the party with the Dyson V15S Detect Submarine. Based on the Dyson V15 Detect, rather than the brand-new Gen5Detect, this new vacuum cleaner has the new Submarine wet roller head. At only 7.1 kg, this Henry hoover is lighter than most upright vacuums and even some cylinder vacuums. It is very manoeuvrable, as most dry vacs are, by way of castor wheels. Unless you are seriously deep pile rug, then the Charles glides over most surfaces. We’re continuously impressed at the products Proscenic has been cranking out in the past year, and this one may have the most muscle of the bunch. The F20 can clean and wash an average sized home in one go, and works on hardwood floors and around tight edges, pulling powerful suction at 15KPa (kilopascals, a worldwide unit of pressure measurement) .

For the 360 Vis Nav, Dyson has some new tech to make sure that cleaning is both efficient, and targeted. First, there’s a 360-degree vision system, which uses a fisheye lens so that the robot can accurately sense where it is, and where is has been. Buyers should know that we did notice a slight high-pitched whirring noise when it was running, and we found that our testing process depleted nearly half the battery, which was higher than most that we tested. Still, all in all, this vacuum/mop combo compares very well to the big brand names in both effectiveness and ease of use. Additional features like a self-cleaning mode and a HEPA filter, which captures and traps ultra-tiny dust particles (0.3 microns to be exact), are the icing on the cake. Unlike the Karcher, this only has one floor tool for wet and dry use which makes it slightly worse at carpet cleaning but it’s also a lot cheaper so there’s that to balance it out.

Who should buy a mop vac?

The Vacmaster Respira has a single suction mode, although the button on the side lets you switch the floor roller speed between Hard Floor (labelled as “I”) and carpet (labelled as “II”). It’s a little cheap-looking, but that’s a minor complaint. If there’s too much suction to move the vacuum cleaner – as I found on short-pile carpet – then there’s an air vent that can be opened to reduce suction pressure. Dual Edge Cleaning: The AC1 wet dry vac features improved dual edge-to-edge cleaning for cleaning any debris like pet hair and dust alongside baseboards and in tight corners. If you’ve got a more modest home and like the idea of a cylinder cleaner, this compact and powerful model is a great choice. Weight This rugged, 4-horsepower, 4-gallon wet/dry vacuum from Stanley is ready for serious cleaning jobs, whether that’s in the house or outside. At 8 pounds, it’s a great option to store in your garage or basement, and it’s easy to start cleaning by hooking up the included attachments for any mess you might encounter. We loved the power settings on this vacuum cleaner: they’re clearly labelled for the job at hand with settings for curtains and upholstery, rugs, carpet and hard floors. No more guessing which mode to use.

Wet dry vacs can range in size from the large industrial ones to small handheld ones. What size you need depends on how often you will need to bring out the big guns. Eight jets of water release 18ml of water every minute, spread evenly over the floor roller, cleaning without leaving excess moisture. Dirty water is removed and kept in a separate waste-tray for easy emptying. Effectiveness: During the effectiveness portion of the test, we made consistent and careful messes on different types of flooring (with raw egg, milk, cereal, and granola) so that each machine was faced with nearly identical clean-up tasks. We then used each vacuum on these messes, taking note of each's performance and the length of time that they took to clean up the spills. If vacuums had a rug or carpet setting, we challenged them with coffee grounds and cereal. It’s compact and makes use of clever design to stow away all the accessories. The hose might look short, but it can stretch out to over 1 metre. I like the little battery charge display on the side of the unit, just press it and you can see how much juice is left. Great value, with decent performance, the Hoover Telios Extra TX50PET is a great all-round cylinder vacuum cleaner for those on a tighter budget. When you go for a cheap option you need to remember that’s what you’re going to get, a cheap option. So it doesn’t work quite as well, there aren’t as many accessories and all the fittings seem cheap. One big difference between wet and dry vacuum cleaners and your standard models is that they can exceed the power limits set: the SE 33 draws 1400W, whereas a standard cleaner will be 750W or less. This translates into more raw power: we measured it at 406AW, which is double the power of many other models in this list. As is the case with other wet and dry vacuums, to switch from wet to dry or vice versa means opening up the unit and switching the filters. The 3515 is designed to vacuum, wash, and steam your floors simultaneously. In other words, the future is here, and it comes in the form of this mop and vacuum combo machine. Switching between vacuuming and washing, or vacuuming and steam cleaning, is as simple as pressing a button on the handle. And, unlike many other similar products, it can be used on area rugs and floor mats, as well as sealed hardwood floors and pressed wood floors. The vacuum weighs just 12.5 pounds and is designed with two tanks, so dirty water never contaminates your clean water. The CrossWave is powered by a 25-foot cord for unlimited runtime—although, you may need to pause to refill and empty your water tanks, depending on the type of cleaning you're doing.
