About this deal

Setting up is a case of plugging in the power and your powered speakers, and adding a music source, typically a library of music prepared in Rekordbox and brought with you on USB. (You can also plug in an iOS or Android device via USB should you have Rekordbox-prepared music on that, or indeed – and a little confusingly if you’re new to all of this and trying to work out the difference between these systems! – a laptop that contains your Rekordbox library.) By pressing and holding the Menu button under the screen, you can access the system preferences, which contain a lot of choices, of which I’m going to highlight a few here. Can you comment on sound quality please? Especially in comparison to top of the line and digital mixer from Pioneer i.e. DJM-900nxs(2) and some full analog mixers for example made by A&H (e.g. Xone43)?

The hardware felt v impressive. Solid. The platters felt great and the mixer felt high quality. I started mixing and learning my way around the unit.Deliveries will be made subject to the terms and conditions of the courier company. djkit.com will not be held responsible for late deliveries. Another fresh new pioneer feature is the fantastic sequencing loop record control. The sequencing loop control means that creating loops on the fly has never been easier for on-the-move mixers. Experimental DJs can also enjoy the unique level of splicing made available with the 16 velocity sensitive pads. On paper at least, the XDJ-RX is the first controller from Pioneer that has convincing answers to some of the big shortcomings people roll out when it comes to software DJing – and I’m not referring to the detractors who won’t give it a go, but those of us who’ve done it for years and still see things about it that aren’t perfect.

Have the ability to learn at home, on this gear the rekordbox system/DJM CDJ club standard way of playing – so that when I go to DJ in a club I will not shit my pants 🙂 A lot of DJ’s first comment on seeing this unit from NAMM was finally a laptop free system, oh but wait only 2 channels. I guess we will have to wait and see if Pioneer are listening to that. If you can’t get your head around the jog-less rigidity of Native Instruments’ S8 & S5 then this strikes a good balance between the “real” feel of DJing with CDJs, combined with the most useful (and fun) functions of controllerism. Thank you very much and sorry for writing so much. 1. I am just passionate about it as hell. 2. I am about to spend a lot of money on my new rig (used to have DDJ-SZ but sold it as I was moving 10000 kms) so wanna be sure I am making an informed decision.Your last 2 sentences – that’s exactly what I am thinking of doing –> getting xdj-rx and hooking up 1200s so that if I want I can use standalone mixer function on the xdj-rx.

DJ’s have been begging for a quality up to date DJ system/Controller which does not require a laptop. Trigger rekordbox dj's quantized Beat FX to the 3 buttons, trigger and twist the dial to manipulate the parameters of each. Get creative with high-quality Sound Colour FX – Noise, Crush, Pitch and Filter. In the mixer section we’re in reassuringly familiar Pioneer territory – standard bass / mid / treble kills for each channel plus full kill trim / gain knobs. Each channel has a silver control knob for the built-in hardware colour FX with the FX selector buttons in the middle giving you a choice of the “noise”, “crush”, “pitch” or “filter” FX that features on a lot of Pioneer gear. With the levels for booth output, master level meters and mater level control lined down the middle, everything feels ergonomically laid out with just enough space to get to grip with EQ, filters and so on. In the middle of the channel faders sits the fader for the volume level of the sampler output and buttons to sync and cue the sampler too, more on the sampler in a bit… Let’s look a little more closely at the mixer section. It’s only two channel, and has a library browse knob and buttons in the middle as DJ controllers do, but otherwise as stated above it looks, feels and acts like any pro Pioneer mixer.

Features

I already have a very powerful laptop (rMBP 15”) so I am not counting this cost at all – it’s there already Now with the XDJ-RX, for the first time it’s possible to see how a beginner DJ could buy this as their first controller, learning how to DJ on it the “Pioneer” way, and so theoretically carry those skills right across into the pro DJ booth when ready with a minimal learning curve to adjust to. Since one of the issues people have with software / controller DJing is “but the club I want to play in has CDJs, and I don’t know how to use them!”, this could turn out to be significant. Be able to use DVS to control my MP3s on the laptop/screen built into DJ controller (while I slowly build my vinyl records library) Last up of the pad functions is the Sampler and Velocity Sampler. Essentially these are banks of sample slots where you can add one-shot samples or loops that you can trigger and overlay in performance. There’s a few basic samples included in the software (siren, horn etc), which I used in testing. The sampler volume is controlled by its own fader in the middle of the mixer and samples can be synced to the master tempo and auditioned in the headphones with buttons just above the fader. By using the capture button you can save currently looping sections (or all the slices in your current “slicer loop”) to the slots to build your own library, pretty cool. Rekordbox DJhas arrived; the new software released by Pioneer DJ is just what Rekordbox users have been waiting for. Rekordbox DJ uses one library so a set can be prepped and played straight from a laptop and used with a controller or export the same library to a USB device ready to use on the industry standard CDJ-2000 Nexus players.
