About this deal

While it can be enjoyed on its own, Talisker Skye is also a great whisky to pair with food. The smoky, peaty flavour pairs wonderfully with strong cheese such as mature cheddar, blue cheese, and Gouda. The smokiness of the whisky cuts through the richness of the cheese and the flavours of both are enhanced. With Water: A few drops of water tame the sweetness on the aroma and bring out some lemon peel. The palate is brighter and has more tart high notes, which makes it less cloying. I highly recommend a little water with this.

The first stills were made from copper and the brothers began distilling their own whisky. In 1892, the MacAskill brothers sold the distillery to the MacDonald brothers, who had been running a successful distillery in nearby Portree. Under their ownership, the distillery was expanded and the first Talisker whisky was released in 1897. I’m not sure what “part of the quote” I “cropped” but, then again, I’m not sure who assumed Storm was really just the 10 with no age statement and the use of (some) re-charred ex-bourbon casks anyway. The distillery’s water comes from Cnoc nan Speireag (Hawk Hill). The malted barley used in production comes from Muir of Ord. Talisker whisky is typically peated to a phenol level of approximately 18–22 parts per million (ppm). Our guide to Skye includes our top 10 walks each with a full description and photo slideshow offering a step by step account of what to expect. The spirit is most frequently matured in American oak casks. The malt is peated to a phenol level of approximately 18–22 parts per million (ppm), which is a medium peating level. Additionally, the water used for production, from Cnoc nan Speireag (Hawk Hill), flows over peat which adds additional complexity to the whisky.Without prejudice to the section Liability below, the Service may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance, updates, etc. We shall make reasonable efforts to inform you of any unavailability due to maintenance or updates. Talisker is repeatedly referenced in the BBC Radio 4 comedy Cabin Pressure. Three separate episodes ("Edinburgh" in series 1, "Paris" in series 3 and "Timbuktu" in series 4) revolve around First Officer Douglas Richardson's attempts to steal 25-year-old Talisker whisky rightfully belonging to the wealthy regular passenger Mr Birling, and it is also mentioned in several other episodes.

Seafood is also a good choice for pairing, especially dishes featuring smoked salmon or scallops. The smoky and peaty notes of the whisky will enhance the flavour of the seafood, while the citrus notes will help to cut through the richness of the dish. Strangely, Talisker has an odd number of spirit stills. They usually work in pairs with the wash stills (1:1). However it’s rumoured this configuration stems from the old Western Isles triple distillation method. Today, Talisker offers some of the most favoured single malt whiskies in the world. It is still made in Carbost, using the same traditional methods that have been used since the distillery was founded. The MacAskill brothers have long since passed, but their legacy lives on in the bottle of Talisker that continues to be enjoyed by whisky lovers around the world. Talisker has retained the five still set-up and continues to produce a highly individual new make which mixessmoke, fruit, sulphur, salt and pepper. The malt is medium-peated, the worts clear, the fermentation long. It is in distillation that things go slightly strange. If you’re a fan of Talisker, you’ll no doubt be familiar with their award winning single malt, 10 year old expression. Since 1989, it’s been a keystone bottle to the Skye distillery, thanks to its signature smoky, salty and peppery notes.

Talisker 10 goes especially well with cheeses that have a strong flavour such as blue cheese or aged cheddar. The smokiness and saltiness of the whisky will bring out the flavours of the cheese and the sweetness of the whisky will help to balance out the sharpness of the cheese. Talisker Storm is a more affordable, no-age-statement whisky that balances smoky and spicy flavours. It’s made of whiskies ranging between 3 and 25 years which creates tension between more fiery youthful malts and older sweeter ones. Re-charred American Oak barrels intensify the smokiness for a more pungent Talisker taste. The Talisker Storm and Talisker Skye are two highly acclaimed single malts, each stemming from the distillery’s famous 10 year old expression. Each has its own unique character and flavour profile, making them both popular choices for whisky connoisseurs. Finally, desserts like dark chocolate mousse or flourless chocolate cake are a great choice for food pairing. The whisky’s smoky and peaty notes will enhance the flavour of the chocolate, while the sweet and citrus notes will add balance to the dish.
