Sometimes more can be achieved with less. It seems to be the case with Sakari no. 11: by polishing off half of the rice grain, the true and rich taste of rice can come through.

Futsu-shu, which is barely polished, is best thought of as table sake. It accounts for the bulk of sake sold in Japan, and though you'll find some paint stripper, there are many excellent everyday drinkers if you look hard enough. In recent years, sake has rapidly gained mainstream traction at bars, restaurants, and grocery stores stateside. The traditional Japanese rice wine comes in variations that boast a wide assortment of textures and flavor profiles, but the one you should absolutely be reaching for as the weather heats up is yuzu sake. Some are fruity, some are dry. Some are best enjoyed hot, some cold. Every food and every moment have their right sake.

You will be surprised by how fruity Sakari no.13 can taste. While - of course - it contains no fruit, the fermentation process lets it develop all kinds of natural aromas. A joy for your palate. Just look at the contented faces of these capybaras in the Izu Shaboten Zoo, as they lie down among the floating citrus. The Umenoyado was the clear winner of the comparative taste test, and The Wife proceeded to buy another three bottles. Because, yuzu addict.

"It should really be called 'nihonshu': 'nihon' meaning Japan, 'shu' is the alcohol of Japan." We still had to finish the remainder of the other two bottles, and we’ve been drinking them individually over the past few days. Interestingly, on their own, they were actually quite nice. For me, sake is a better tool of communication than any social network. More importantly, it does something social networks cannot: it connects me to nature. ” Yuzushu is a traditional Japanese liqueur made by steeping yuzu, a citrus fruit native to East Asia, in sake or shochu and sweetening it with sugar.
