About this deal

In most homes, installing a Google Nest thermostat is an easy DIY project that takes about 20-30 min. The Nest app’s step-by-step instructions make it easy to install and wire your thermostat, so use it as your main guide. Refer to this article if you need extra help. The displays and bases of various thermostat models are not interchangeable, even though they may look similar.

WARNING: Any attempt to connect low and high voltage thermostat parts may damage them as well as your system. Do not mix and match these bases and displays, even if the thermostats are the same model and generation. The cheaper Nest Thermostat does not do this, and instead relies on you creating a schedule for it to follow, or adjusting the temperature manually. Note:Only one of the wires that go into theconnector (HUM,DEHUM,E,W 3,G 3) can be connected to the Nest thermostat. The 3rd-genNest Learning Thermostat supports systems with either multiple fan speeds (G 2/G 3) or with multiple stages of heating (AUX/W 2/W 3) and cooling (Y 2). TheNest Thermostat E works with 85% of 24 V heating and cooling systems, including gas, electric, forced air, heat pump, radiant, oil, hot water, solar and geothermal. To get a custom wiring diagram for installation, simply follow Nest app’s thermostat installation instructions. Touch bar on the right side of the ring: also comes in different colors (Refer to the colors below).

But there are two major differences. The first is in the name of the Nest Learning Thermostat – it learns your temperature preferences, then starts to make small changes automatically in a bid to keep you comfortable, but while using less energy. This could mean lowering the heating by a degree, or running the air conditioning slightly less often; both of these could go unnoticed, but will consume less energy and lower your bills. Some countries use high-voltage wiring for thermostats while others (such as the US and Canada) use low-voltage wiring. Nest designed different thermostats for high- and low-voltage system wiring. High-voltage and low-voltage Nest thermostat parts are not compatible. The display connector on the thermostat base is different for all 3 generations of the Nest Learning Thermostat. In addition, the connectors for the system wires are different between thermostat models. The Nest Learning Thermostat E is designed to work even if your home doesn't have a common C wire, but installation ofa new C wire or the Nest Power Connectormay be required in rare cases. Or, put a sensor in the bedroom and tell the thermostat to prioritize that room, keeping it warm (or cool) regardless of the temperature where the thermostat is installed.

The Nest app’s step-by-step instructions make it easy to install and wire your thermostat, so use it as your main guide. Refer to this article if you need extra help. They can program themselves to create a personalized schedule and turn down automatically to save energy when you’re away. You can control your thermostat from a phone, tablet, Google Home Hub or even an Android Watch or Apple Watch with the Nest or Google Home app. And, you can use your smart speaker or display to change the temperature with your voice—just say, “Hey Google, set the temperature to 68.” Brass is warm and subtle - it can act as a pop of color for your home or blend in with other metal accents you may have.

Install your thermostat on the wall

Thermostats are often placed in a cool part of the home, such as the hallway. This can cause the heating to come on more frequently than is required in warmer rooms like the kitchen. Place a temperature sensor in the kitchen, for example, and the thermostat will know not to come on when the room is already warm from your evening cooking. The app will show you how to install your thermostat. It will ask you some questions about your thermostat wires. Answer them as accurately as possible. Because of different hardware designs, the displays and bases of various Nest thermostat models are not interchangeable even though they may look similar. The display connector and system wire connectors vary from model to model. Please see the first two sections in this article for more details. As long as the thermostat base is from the same model, generation, and country/region as the thermostat display, you can swap bases and displays. The Nest Thermostat can be in different colors. If you have a thermostat that looks like one of these, you have a Nest Thermostat.

WARNING:Attempting to connect parts from different Nest thermostat models may damage your thermostat as well as your system. Heating and Cooling: one stage of heating (W1) and cooling (Y1) and a second stage of either heating (W2)or cooling (Y2).If you have a dual fuel system or a whole-home humidifier/dehumidifier, it is strongly recommended that you choose professional installation. As long as the thermostat base is from the same model, generation and country/region as the thermostat display, you can swap bases and displays. Both thermostats are the same size, with a 3.3-inch diameter, but they look quite different. The Learning Thermostat has a high-resolution digital display for showing the temperature, status of your heating, and the menu system, which is navigated by rotating and pressing a metal ring that runs around the entire circumference. Meanwhile, the cheaper Nest Thermostat is made from plastic and has what Nest calls a mirror display, which is reflective when off and white when on. The 3rd genNest Learning Thermostat’s stainless steel ring can also be in different colors. If you have a thermostat ring that looks likeone of these, you have a 3rd gen Nest LearningThermostat.
