These days, automatic dustbin emptying is becoming a standard robot vacuum feature. While most self-emptying robot vacuums transfer the contents of their bin into a bag, the Shark IQ Robot XL takes a different approach. It has two dustbins: one in the robot itself, and a larger one in the base station that only needs to be emptied about once a month. The advantage of Shark's bagless auto-empty system is that you never have to worry about running out of bags. Self emptying: Most robot vacuums have small dust collection bins and so need frequent emptying, but some can empty themselves into a larger base-station bin and then continue to clean. At heart it's very similar to the Roomba S9, with the same mapping technology and Alexa and Google Assistant integration. It uses the same high capacity dust bags, which typically need replaced every 30 days, and you can buy it without the self-emptying base (that version is the i7 without the plus) if you want to keep the price down a bit. Like other types of vacuums, many of the best robot vacuums on this list and other models we've tested are effective at collecting pet hair, fine dust, and larger debris from floors.

If you're looking for a robot vacuum on a budget, the Eufy 11S is worth considering. It has a reasonable price and that price is often discounted, so you’ll be hard pushed to find a rival that's such good value for money. As you’d expect from iRobot’s highest-end model, it’s not cheap (although worth noting it is currently on offer), and it wasn’t any faster than either of the other machines we tested from the brand. It can only be controlled via the app, but we found it clear to use, allowing you to set no-go zones, create cleaning schedules and look over the battery life and cleaning history.
