I know the Bond Seiko had them too, but those Roger Moore movies had all kinds of stupid shit in them. The watch includes a number of different preset times that you can select for the countdown start time. I tried Cinnamon Brown on my Kranio stainless steel case (yes, yes, I know you are waiting for that review and I’m writing it now), the Merlot Red on my black case, and the Graphite Black on the gold case.It is a lot by any standard, most of it is unnecessary, and some is downright ugly, like the “Word Time” and “Illuminator” emblazoned across the case.

Removing the text on the case and frame was not terribly difficult with the right solvent, but I wonder if it was really worth the effort. It’s not a copy, but there are certain key elements that connect the two, most notably, the “radar” in the top left (a clock on the Casio, a stopwatch on the Seiko, and a tracking device in the movie), the beveled black bezel with its clipped corners, and the raised nacelles for the four function buttons. I hate plastic straps and was prepared to throw it away without a second thought, but I have to confess, this one is remarkably well designed.Of course, for as crazy as that sounds, you have to remember that the Casio AE1200 retails for peanuts, so if I find something else that might be fun to throw at it, I’d be a fool not to. The three circular shaped chronographs doesn't seem to be of much use either, other than a fancy look. As for the AE-1300 model, having only a single alarm(as opposed to 5 in the 1200 model) seems to be a minor drawback. A gentle pry at the metal retaining flanges with a jeweler’s screwdriver is all it takes to liberate the movement – well, not a “movement” really as there are no moving parts. I’m partial to the bright silver and pale gray on the silver and bronze cases that mute the secondary labels.

I find AE-1200 very nice watch and also suitable for thin wrists despite its big size (I have both - thin wrist and the watch). What really ties the Casio and the Seiko is the AE1200’s LCD display layout featuring a digital representation of an analog clock in the top left with the others stacked below and to the right. The dial dimensions are small enough but because of the way the strap is attached to the edge of the dial(u know, like it's been screwed to the case), it doesn't fully wrap around my wrist but instead, leaves a gap. The silver AE1200 is nicknamed the “Casio Royale” because it resembles the Seiko G757 5020 Sports 100 worn by Roger Moore as James Bond in Octopussy – even though it isn’t that same watch, and the movie wasn’t Casino Royale. While the two square models (1200/1300) are a little better with 2 LED lights, all the round models have only 1 LED and give obviously uneven lighting across the face of the watch.Most of the mod processes are difficult to depict by words, so I plan to launch a series of tutorials and behind the scenes soon. Some folks have cut away the crossbars that separate the displays, but I don’t think that’s a great look.
