It’s not that heavy, but I know which of these games I would teach to smaller children or to my in-laws. Things always start out smooth and easy, players content to take their time and get a feel for the race, but with each passing turn, as you get closer to the finish line, the tension ratchets up accordingly, with winners and losers often decided as much by what happens in the last couple of turns as the dozen that came before. An expansion is available, Flamme Rouge: Peloton, that increases the player count to six teams as well as new track sections. This means that the rider(s) on the front row of the lead pack, or any following pack that was too far behind to slipstream will receive an exhaustion card. Players move their riders forward by drawing and playing cards from that riders specific deck, depleting it as they go.

If you are leading the pack or not close enough to be slip-streaming, each turn that player receives a fatigue card to that team member. Each card carries with it a certain progress score that moves your racers along the grid-based course, but there’s more to it than just hoping you draw a high number and rolling with it. Once everyone has chosen their two cards, they are revealed and the player leading the race goes first, moving their cyclist the number of spaces their card shows.The sprinter has lots of long and short distance cards, the rouleur as lots of medium distance cards. Flamme Rouge is a fast-paced, tactical bicycle racing game where each player controls a team of two riders: a Rouleur and a Sprinteur.

As a more strategic alternative to a roll and move game, Flamme Rouge is all about pacing your team and knowing when to gamble on a big card play.

Movement Phase - In this phase the person who is first (if tied the person on the right lane gets the advantage) shows the card that has been selected and moves the rider that number of places. You want to spend as little time on an incline as possible, and you have to think a couple of turns before to try to hit it perfectly. Additionally the selection of games available, cards against muggles was a very hard game to find and I did not see it on many sites.
