True to its name, Analogue Productions works with the original analogue master tapes - more than any other reissue label! I have only re-presses to compare to, anyway, this one sound phenomenal out of my Proac; I can only imagine how an OG press may sounds, if it's true that the OG blown it away .

Was hoping it would be the highly regarded 2013 mono mastering, or at the very least, a mono pressing as shown in their images. The top-selling jazz album of all time, it has been lauded, entered into “Best Of” lists and Halls of Fame, and universally acknowledged as a landmark recording — a five-track masterpiece of melancholy mood and melody. Prior postings on this very site and elsewhere indicate that tape op used two or three three-track machines and a single (full) track machine for mono, all Ampex loaded with Scotch 190 (the good heavy stuff). On March 2, 1959, the tracks " So What", " Freddie Freeloader", and " Blue in Green" were recorded for side one of the original LP, and on April 22 the tracks " All Blues" and "Flamenco Sketches" were recorded, making up side two.Acoustic Sounds bought a bunch of metal parts from Classic Records when they went out of business, though not the contractual right to press the records, which they had to acquire separately. It was recorded on March 2 and April 22, 1959, at Columbia's 30th Street Studio in New York City, and released on August 17 of that same year by Columbia Records. In 1958, the arrival of Ornette Coleman on the jazz scene via his fall residency at the Five Spot club, consolidated by the release of his The Shape of Jazz to Come LP in 1959, muted the initial impact of Kind of Blue, a happenstance that irritated Davis greatly.

You really do feel like you're in the recording studio with the band; the realism of the room is that stark.Macero did not produce Davis until after Townsend took over West Coast production duties for Columbia Records, when Macero took his place. I've heard this album, in one version or another, hundreds of times, and there are fine touches in Cobb's snare swooshes and cymbal taps — accents on accents, rhythms within rhythms — that I've never heard before.
